Admissions - Please note that a SIF in not required unless you have adopted a child from outside England

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a fantastic opportunity for young people to develop skills and interests in a non-academic context. It requires independence, motivation, commitment and resilience over a prolonged period and will inspire and equip you to participate in a range of activities. The programme is internationally recognised and will help to define you as an individual. The sense of satisfaction that young people achieve as a result of complete the Duke of Edinburgh's Award is huge and can provide a confidence to suceed in life.

Wye School is a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Licenced Organisation which means we are able to run our own expeditions. We have several members of staff who have participated in the Award themselves and who will work with you to ensure that you achieve your Award. We have run the Bronze DofE Award for three consecutive years, and this year we will be running our first ever Silver Award.

As you may already know, the Department for Education has instructed all schools and colleges to offer mass testing to all pupils, students and staff.

The aim of this is to make our education community safer and limit the transmission of Covid-19.

This school is undergoing a Quality Assurance exercise to support NHS Test & Trace during the fortnight beginning the 27th September.

In essence the dual testing protocol involves an LFD test being run at the same time as a PCR test once next week. The LFD test and PCR test results are then recorded separately but also, crucially, linked together through a third process.

The details surrounding this process appears in the links below and further information has also been sent via email to individual parents, students and staff members.

Chilmington Green Free School

United Learning has been given approval by the government to open a new Free School in Chilmington Green, Ashford. The brief is to open a 4-6 forms of entry mixed non-selective secondary school in September 2023. This will be housed in a new building on the A28 edge of the new Chilmington Green development. The new free school will join Wye School as the second United Learning secondary school in the Ashford area, and like Wye School will also work with Ashford School, our local United Learning independent school. The priority academic objectives are to:

  • provide outstanding education for the Chilmington Green population;
  • improve the quality of education in the Ashford area;
  • to give access to a United Learning education for families currently living outside the Wye School catchment area in South and Central Ashford.

The new school is planned to open with Year 7 only and then grow progressively each year until completion as an 11-16 school in 2027, at which point it will open it's Sixth Form.

These are early days in the project for a new Free School and links to public information will be posted here when they become available.
