At our school, homework supports our shared values of ambition, determination and respect. We encourage every pupil to approach homework with a positive mindset, striving to achieve their very best and grow in confidence. Through determination, pupils develop independence, resilience and a strong work ethic, embracing challenges as opportunities to learn.
Homework plays an important role in supporting students’ learning beyond the classroom. When carefully planned, it helps pupils to:
- Consolidate and remember learning – practising knowledge over time strengthens long-term memory
- The Education Endowment Foundation has shown that homework has a positive impact of around +5 months of additional progress on average.
- Develop independence and resilience – students learn to manage time, work independently and take responsibility for their progress.
- Prepare for lessons and exams – homework allows students to revisit key ideas and practise applying knowledge.
- Build effective study habits – such as revision techniques, organisation and self-discipline.
- Strengthen the home–school partnership – giving parents insight into learning and ways to support.

Students are set between 20 minutes and 1 hour of homework every week, in all qualifications. |
The school does not publish a prescriptive homework timetable with hand in days. All homework is set with a reasonable deadline (it is not usually expected that students would have to hand in homework the next day, for example). Students are expected to develop their organisational skills by planning the completion of their homework tasks.
Rewards and Sanctions:
Students will receive school value points in recognition of completing a good standard of homework by their class teacher. Students may be set a lunchtime detention for non-completion of homework.
The Setting and Recording of Homework Activities
Teachers set homework through Arbor as an ‘assignment’.
Teachers upload the details of the homework including the nature of the task, instruction for its completion and the due date. Students and parents can track homework completion on the parent and student portals.
