Business Studies by Mr Matt Buckley

I love to teach Business Studies as it is a course that supports all career choices. Invariably, all of us end up working in businesses or end up owning businesses. This course supports entrepreneurs or those who wish to understand business activities or are interested in how businesses work. The start of that journey into the workplace is in this course but more importantly, this could be the start of the journey for our future entrepreneurs, the opportunity to light the fuse, even to start that first business. Business is creative and analytical all at the same time and the economy is ready for the next generation of entrepreneurs. This will give those budding entrepreneurs the experience in business to start. As Harold S. Geneen said “In the Business world, everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later”.

Why undertake Business Studies?

A Level Business provides students with an excellent base knowledge of how businesses operate. They will understand themes around marketing and managing people. The course builds on GCSE Business by developing the ideas and concepts by looking at global businesses. However, those new to business studies will still be able to access the course without prior knowledge as it does provide a solid base of understanding in key areas of content such as financial planning. The course also provides students with the knowledge to run the supporting processes of their own business such as which financial documents to use. This course offers a great foundation for further study, entering the workplace as an employee or becoming your own boss.

Course Description

The course is divided in to four key themes:

  1. Marketing and people- we look at entrepreneurs and managers, marketing, meeting customer needs and managing people.

  3. Business decisions and strategies- we look at business strategies, business decisions, influences on business, gaining a competitive advantage and managing change.
