In September 2013, Wye School opened as a brand new comprehensive (all-ability) free school with our first cohort of Year 7s. Since then, we have grown year-on-year and delivered our first above average GCSE results in 2018. Our curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire our students so that they achieve their very best outcomes. Our first 6th Formers started a rigorous, academic A Level based curriculum in September 2018 and completed our first A Levels, again excellent, in 2020.
At Wye School we capitalise on our smaller than average size for a secondary school and build warm relationships with staff and students, who report they are happy and like working/studying with us. In Ofsted’s June 2015 review of the school, inspectors praised our “vibrant leadership”, “clear and aspirational vision” and “high level of ambition for the students and for the school”. As part of United Learning, a group of schools and academies across the country, we make it our mission to bring out ‘the best in everyone’ – students, staff, parents and the wider community.
We are based in the Kempe Centre, the former library of Wye College, which is located in the beautiful village of Wye – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which includes a dedicated 6th Form area and modern Art, Science, MfL and Food rooms. We also have the recently built Margaret Williams Building which provides modern and specialist teaching classrooms, PE and Music facilities. We take full advantage of our surroundings through a range of enrichment experiences including our gardening club at the allotments, orienteering with the Combined Cadet Force on the Downs and other co-curricular activities.
Our vision is to be an academically challenging non-selective school that has warm relationships and happy staff and students. We do well at exams but are not an exam factory. We welcome staff who are individually excellent and good at working as part of a team.
The staff all get along really well and support each other. The school is innovative, daring and exciting.
