Second year of GCSE success for Wye School

Celebrations are underway at Wye School after its second set of GCSE students secure very strong results.

These showed that this year 72% of students achieved five or more good passes (grade 4 or above) including English and maths – an increase on last year.

On the government’s Basics measure, which represents the combined English and maths score, the school also saw improvements. 78% of students achieved at least a pass (grade 4 or above) in both English and maths. Half of all students (49%) also achieved the higher level pass of grade 5 or above in both subjects.

Notable individual successes include:

  • Sophie Wildman, who achieved two 9s in Geography and English Literature, three 8s, three 7s and two 6s;
  • India Niles, who achieved two 9s in Maths and Chemistry, three 8s, one 7, one 6, one 5 and two 4s;
  • Amelia Pullen, who achieved two 9s in English Language and English Literature, three 7s, four 6s and one 5;
  • Nathan Stacey, who achieved three 8s in Physics, Maths and Chemistry, three 7s, two 6s, one 5 and one 4;
  • Joel Dawkins, who achieved four 8s in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Sport, two 7s, one 6, two 5s and one 4.

Luke Magee, Principal of Wye School, said:

“Everyone in the school is to be congratulated on these results which show an improvement on our first year’s strong performance. With these grades, our students will now be able to enter our flourishing Sixth Form and continue their education here.

“These results build on a very successful year at the school and we look forward to the academic year ahead, our first in our stunning new buildings.”

Parents were also celebrating with their children today. Alison and David Polley said of their daughter’s experience at Wye School:

“I have always felt that Wye School has supported and nurtured my daughter…..not only helped with the academic side but also helped my daughter become a wonderful young adult. We feel truly lucky to have had Wye as our daughter’s school.”
