His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex visited Dover Christ Church Academy today to see the work of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Kent. Wye School was invited to attend along with Ashford School, with whom we run a joint Combined Cadet Force Unit and also work together on the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Mr Wickington, our DoE Co-ordinator, took Jamie Allen, Miles Furnell, Joshua Salmon and Jac Wood to the royal event and they worked with Ashford School students to demonstrate a navigation task. Prince Edward stopped with them for a significant amount of time, talking to staff and each student in turn. He asked Jamie about what he was doing for his DoE Bronze Award, the answer was archery which the Prince asked questions about. He then spoke in some depth to Jac about his leadership of the navigation task and his experiences of both the CCF and DoE.

After talking to students the Prince unveiled a plaque and all the students there gave him a loud cheer, which seemed to at first surprise him and then make him very happy.

Mr Magee, who also attended the event, was very proud of how well all four Wye students attending represented the school, speaking confidently to a Prince and other distinguished guests from the government, police and local authority.
