On the last day of Autumn term 1, all students made the short walk down the lane (in wellies), to Ripple Farm Organics for a very informative look at organic vegetable growing. Students were shown how the crops are harvested and even helped to pull them out of the ground! Students were given two bags full of produce to bring back to school for use by the canteen and Art.

The pumpkins were whisked straight upstairs, to the afternoon Art Club for making Halloween lanterns. The purpose of the visit was to continue the students’ thinking about the school’s theme of sustainability and link to  the next science topic of Food Chains (which will be further developed by their trip to Wildwood on 26th November).  Learning took place on how organic farming differs to conventional farming, including the natural measures which can be used for fertilising the soil. Wye School staff and students would like to thank the staff at Ripple Farm Organics for a very enjoyable visit. This is one of the many benefits of us being located in the heart of the Wye countryside and community.
