WYE SCHOOL MARKS UNIVERSITY SUCCESS AS STUDENTS RECEIVE A LEVELS
~ Sixth Formers’ hard work pays off as they take up places at King’s College, Leeds and Manchester amongst others~
Sixth Formers at Wye School are set to take up places at some of the UK’s top universities, as they receive their A Level grades today.
This year, A Levels were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. At Wye School, students sat in-class exams and completed coursework as part of this assessment process.
Among those celebrating at Wye School were:
- Sophie Wildman, who received As in Chemistry, Maths and Spanish, and will be taking up a place at Manchester University to study Chemistry;
- Anais Bouchat, who received As in English Literature, History and Maths, and has secured a place at Leeds University to study Law;
- Amelia Pullen, who received an A* in English Literature, an A in Biology and a B in Chemistry, and will be going to King’s College to study Pharmacy;
- Abi Holroyde, who received an A* in Art, an A in English Language and a B in English Literature, and will be taking up a place at Kent University to study Architecture;
- Lara Norris, who received an A* in Politics, an A in English Language and a B in Geography, and will be going to Sussex University this autumn to study Politics.
80% of students got into their first choice university, incuding Russell Group universities such as Cardiff, Newcastle, King's College London, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham.
Commenting on the day, Luke Magee, Principal at Wye School, said:
“Our Sixth Formers have shown real fortitude, determination and character over the past 18 months, amidst the disruption caused by the pandemic. Throughout, they have maintained their focus and hard work – whether in class or during periods of home learning – and I am delighted to see so many securing the university and apprenticeship places of their choice today.
“I would like to congratulate all our students receiving their grades today and wish them all the best as they take their next steps as adults. Our staff, too, deserve huge thanks for their tireless efforts, guidance and support towards our young people, and the way they have adapted to make the best of these challenging times.”
Amelia Pullen said ‘I am so happy I am going to King’s College, I feel like writing a poem! Thank you to my amazing English teacher.’
Abi Holroyde said ‘I am over the moon that I got into the University of Kent to study Architecture. It was such a difficult year and we didn’t know what to expect.’
School Captain Max Jones is going to Swansea University to study Public Relations and he said ‘brilliant, over the moon, very grateful to Wye School for all you have done over 7 years for me.’
School Captain Emily Baldwin is going to Sussex University to study English and said ‘we are excited and nervous to leave school, it has been a tough two years, but we have made it.’
Wye School agree with her, Year 13 have made it, and we are very proud of them.
