SUMMER weather prevailed for the students of Wye School on Friday 15th July as they performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream outside in a magical woodland setting.

In tribute to the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare, budding young stars from Wye School performed an adaptation of the popular Shakespeare comedy against a backdrop of woodland foliage, foam flowers and fairy lights.

The Art department, led by Rebecca Riordan, had created a magical world with hand-made props that included camouflaged wings, lanterns, bunting and Grecian pillars covered in twinkling lights. The result was a breath-taking fairy wonderland in the middle of the woods. For sound the production only used traditional wood, wind and percussion instruments and students performed without the aid of microphones, competing successfully against the Wye church bells.

Drama teacher, Emma Hall said, ‘Students had to learn an entire play in the original language and deal with the uncertainty of the elements too. As the play got underway, the sun set and the fairy lights twinkled. It was a truly magical experience for the students and the audience.’
