Enrichment Week

July saw our 2019 Enrichment Week, and students spent it on trips to places as exciting as France, Belgium and Wales, as well as more locally to London, Dover and Godinton House. As well as trips, we ran on-site enrichment activities such as Masterchef, Computer Programming, Arts Master and Woodland Skills. We mixed students up for the week so they get to work and socialise with a new set of friends, and, across year groups. The week had a really positive atmosphere and lots of fun was had. Opportunities were taken to learn new skills, in areas that we do not offer in normal lessons e.g. making a wreath from flowers you picked yourself, cooking a pie and making a bivouac in the woods.

Official Opening by Lord Lieutenant

Wye School was honoured today by a visit from the Viscount De L'Isle, Lord Lieutenant of Kent, and Lady De L'Isle, who officially opened our new Margaret Williams Building. The event, which marks the completion of our building works, started with a tour of the school for the Lord Lieutenant and other guests, including a drama performance, a PE demonstration, an Art exhibition, and meeting Duke of Edinburgh and Combined Cadet Force participants. The Lord Lieutenant then unveiled a plaque marking the occasion and was treated to musical performances by Year 7 and Year 10 students. In their speeches at the event the Lord Lieutenant, Dame Sally Coates representing United Learning, Margaret Williams the Chair of Governors and Luke Magee the Principal, all thanked the parents, students, local community and external people involved with setting up and opening Wye Free School in 2013 for their support and hard work, and everyone who has helped deliver our new buildings and facilities. Wye School’s journey to completion finishes in September when the first Year 13 students will round off the seven years of growth since opening.
