Our Theme - Sustainability
Woven into the broad and balanced curriculum is the school’s theme of sustainability within the rural and built environment.
The theme has been specifically chosen to reflect the school’s location and will use the local environment to create a network of links between subject areas.
The theme of sustainability is a thread which runs through all schemes of learning and is a key focus of schemes of work for science and geography. In addition, environmental concerns and projects are evident in our social, moral, spiritual and cultural programme of study, Our aim is to encourage students to engage with and adopt responsibility for the world they live in.
Taking full advantage of the school’s inspirational village campus setting, which reflects the area’s rich academic, environmental and agricultural roots, the theme creates exciting opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom. The theme is delivered in partnership with local community organisations, including Ripple Farm Organics, Wye Community Farm and the Allotments Association, who provide valuable resources for many subjects including biology, art and technology.
All activities connected to this unique theme enhance the curriculum. The theme builds on community interactions and widens the educational experience of students of all academic abilities.
In addition to this, the themes of enterprise and innovation underpin all aspects of school life. We are committed to broadening students’ understanding of the world of work and the myriad of opportunities locally, nationally and internationally. All schemes of learning help students develop key skills that will enable them to succeed in the world of work and raise awareness of career opportunities, through approaches such as work simulations in science, real life briefs for art and technology and the establishing of higher education and community links for a range of subjects.
