Devising Drama

Students Devise their own piece of Drama called ‘The Car Crash’- exploring the theme of drink driving through an extract of the novel ‘Face’. Performance is focused on physical theatre, spatial awareness, monologue and giving a strong political message in the style of Brecht.

Split Stage productions.

Exploring the stage and setting of a production using two or more areas to create two sides of a story.

Focus is on blocking of movement and timing of delivery of lines so that they do not overlap with another performance.

Monologues and inner conflict of characters.

A Cracker under the Settee by Alan Bennett, introducing pupils to the creation of a character and performing a devised monologue to help them to form ideas about convincing characters.

 

Blazing Fables.

A large group comedy play in the genre of a spoof western.

Focus- non-verbal communication to create comedy (E.g. how to continue acting when you are not saying your lines.

Shakespeare, The Tempest.

Stage, set and prop design for excerpts from the play.

Students will create original designs for modern performances of The Tempest and think about the actors’ interaction with the audience.

Little Sister

Exploring and sustaining character through a ‘Big Brother’ style game show.
